Ultima presents two club events at Oslo’s freshest venue, Youngs, highlighting the point where club based sounds collide with avant garde approaches. This first night takes in a broad sweep from the northernmost point of Scandinavia to the hothouse of South East Asia where two challenging multinational experimental club hijacks celebrate minority people and post-colonial queer liberation music.
Bird Bird, Touch Touch, Sing Sing is an immersive sound performance/installation by a dynamic pair of performers from South East Asia. Nguyễn Baly and artist Tara Transitory, who moves between Berlin and Chiang Mai, hurl themselves into a maelstrom of real time synthesis, noise, rhythms and moves while exploring issues around queer existence and postcolonial narratives.
Avant Joik is the joint project of Norwegian composer and performer Maja S.K. Ratkje and Katarina Barruk, a vocalist from the Saami community of northern Sweden who is dedicated to the continuity of her culture and language. Debuted at Insomnia Festival Tromsø, their duo with video by the Saami artist Matti Aikio, contains all the drama and tempest of the Nordic wilderness, as well as much of its quiet magic and meditative stillness.
After midnight DJing is presented by critically acclaimed Charlotte Bendiks. As well as a stellar DJ career which took off on the Berlin club scene last year, she produces her own music and has worked for many years with Tromsø’s Insomnia Festival. Expect sounds from the sharp end of electronic beat culture!
