South African artist William Kentridge brings his unique adaptation of Kurt Schwitters’ dada sound poem Ursonate to Ultima (at DNO&B 15 + 16 September). In this talk Kentridge will reveal the background to his highly personalised take on Schwitters’s masterwork, as well as give extra context about his other artistic projects which range from stop-motion charcoal drawings to film, sculpture, theatre and puppetry.
Often referencing the history of apartheid in South Africa, his obliquely political work has been exhibited at MoMA in New York and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Louisiana in Copenhagen, The Whitechapel Gallery in London and documenta X in Kassel.
In conversation with Ana María Bresciani.
In collaboration with DNO&B, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter. Supported by Sparebankstiftelsen.
