For the second of today’s Ulysses concerts, two of Europe’s up and coming composers will have their pieces premiered by a three-person ensemble. With a line-up featuring electric motors, amplified viola, and contact-miked objects transformed electronically, you can expect an unconventional sound world.
Russian Marina Poleukhina combines composing, improvising and performing, and her Dry Rotating Plant on the Balcony includes a dancer representing a dry plant in which every gesture transforms into sound and image.
Mikołaj Laskowski, from Poland, specialises in instrumental chamber and electronic music, especially the Hammond organ. In Deep Relaxation vol. 4: Self-Care, various self-care rituals are taken out of context , challenging the familiar relationship between composer, audience and performer.
