The orchestra was recorded in 32 channels and the individual parts will be diffused through a spatialised sound system in the dark Hvelvet chamber at the heart of Sentralen. The effect is like moving inside a three dimensional orchestra, as the public can move between different ‘stations’ within the space. Different instruments have been grouped together into six different stations or, as Ulvo describes it, ‘worlds inside the universe’, which are broadcast from six clusters of speakers.

Her compositions often arise out of various forms of friction, noise and overtones created by the instruments. She likes to compose in a close dialogue with performers, focusing on how this exchange of ideas with other musicians can supplement the written score. Her music is also inspired by other artistic fields, such as film, text and sound art.

Ulvo was recently chosen to take part in the composers’ developmental programme KUPP, initiated by Music Norway and Norsk Komponistforening, with support from Talent Norge, Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, TONO, Det Norske Komponistfond and NB Noter.

Produced by the Oslo Philharhonic in collaboration with Notam.
