A hypnotic sound experience that casts an intoxicating spell for an hour, Mantrawas premiered in 1970 and has become a contemporary music milestone.Along with their instruments, the two pianists in Mantra are required to make sound with cymbals, woodblocks and two ring modulators, leading to dazzling transformations of the piano sound.
In this version, world renowned classical pianists Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich with Marco Stroppa at the helm of the electronics bring their much praised interpretation of Mantrato Oslo. Aimard knew Stockhausen personally, which makes his interpretations highly authentic to the composer’s vision. Over the years, Aimard has played Stockhausen’s piano music extensively as well as his acclaimed performances of Bach, Beethoven and Boulez.
Following the concert, the pianists and sound engineer will conduct a post-concert talk exploring the work in more detail.
