Music and culture, audiences and societies change due to influences from within and from outside. This seminar focuses on how the development of new technologies is radically changing the patterns in the way music is listened to and consumed, and which impact it has on the creators and composers.

It will deal with the potentials and the pitfalls currently facing the dynamic and ever changing world of music. New styles, formats, listening patterns, streaming services and vinyl nostalgia are constantly coming and going. The live arena has become increasingly important. And what is happening to income, when TONO’s total intake is up, but individual composers are seeing a reduction in royalty payments?

Jørgen Karlstrøm (chairman, Norsk Komponistforening) kicks off the debate with a talk on how technology is affecting the contemporary music scene, its composers and copyright law, from a Norwegian and international perspective.

Produced in collaboration with Norsk Komponistforening

Ultima Context is supported by Fritt Ord and Bergesenstiftelsen.
