When dealing with issues around migration, one major problem facing makers of music theatre, documentary films and other forms of art is to avoid exoticising the subject.
When artists and directors try to engage with refugees from countries and cultures far removed from their own personal experience, what strategies can be employed to deal with these difficult situations sympathetically and objectively, without losing the humanity of the individuals concerned?
Where is the line between revelation and intrusion on traumatic personal histories? Norwegian visual artist and theatre director Kjetil Skøien and art historian/journalist Kjetil Røed come together with Syrian refugees to discuss these vital issues.
