Beatriz Ferreyra was associated with the GRM (Group de Recherches Musicales), the pioneering electronic music studio and composers’ collective founded by Pierre Schaeffer at Radio France in the 1950s. After moving from her native Argentina to Paris in 1963, she made her own radical, vivid music at the GRM and assisted other composers (including Guy Reibel and Schaeffer himself) in accomplishing their own projects. She left GRM at the beginning of the 70s and collaborated with the sound sculptors the Baschet brothersas well as teaching at Dartmouth College.
In a rare personal appearance, Ferreyra performs live diffusions of a curated selection of her compositions at Ultima, assisted by Oslo based British composer Natasha Barrett.
The works date from between 1978 and stereo tape piece Echosto 2017 with Senderos del olvid and Paths of Forgetfulness, inspired by astrophysics. There is also Ferreyra’s tribute to jazz trumpeter Miles Davis in Jazz’t for Miles, and a slice of canine concrète with La ba-balle du chien-chien à la mémère and L’autre rive (The Other Shore), which takes its inspiration from the Tibetan Book of the Dead.
