The sonic and climatic quality of rain is the subject of a new installation by Norweigan composer and sound artist Asbjørn Blokkum Flø. Vital to the survival of nature and humanity, rain is also a complex audio phenomenon. In Electric Rain, the main space at Atelier Nord ANX will be filled with 100 individually controlled speakers creating an immersive 3D sound space. Flø explores the many tiny variables that combine to form the familiar sound of rain falling. In an effort to find underlying patterns behind the apparent randomness, specially designed software adjusts the overall sound according to size, amount and variability of the raindrops. Visitors to the gallery might find themselves surrounded by anything from a light drizzle to a full-blown tropical storm.
