Israeli artist Noa Eshkol’s incredible discipline underpinned an expressive life of passion,desire and pure creativity.
Noa Eshkol: Rules, Theory & Passion is the first major retrospective of Noa Eshkol (1924–2007) in the Nordic countries. The exhibition covers Eshkol’s entire life and work: her wealth of research from the 50s onwards, choreography, studies of language, textile art and a special notation system for human movement.
This exhibition displays material from the Noa Eshkol Archive, including illustrations, documentary films and photographs, plus her original notebooks. It is a remarkable insight into the interdisciplinary practice of an artist strikingly ahead of her time. The show also collects many of her rarely seen ‘wall carpets’ – textile works assembled from offcuts and rags from the 1970s to the 1990s, inspired by folk tales, literature, geometry, still lives and landscapes.
Works by contemporary artists inspired by Eshkol’s practice are also included: Sharon Lockhart, Yael Bartana and choreographer Omer Krieger.
