Flexi-percussion ensemble Pinquins extend the pop-up trend into the realm of new music. These short, intimate recitals for ten listeners at a time will last 20 minutes each, with three works selected randomly from a pool of six. Turn up and let yourself enjoy the surprise!
Their chosen repertoire of six spanking new works largely reflects the widespread new normality of the coronavirus. Neste eon by Martin Torvik Langerød features hybrid percussion, bells, blocks, trash and battery-driven electronic objects. Yiran Zhao’s Music Workout consists of several brief ‘workouts’, inspired by home training sessions, with exercises for parts of the body, sounds from sports equipment and animal-noise toys. Ingar Zach’s tribute to the late avant garde musician Cor Fuhler translates as Triangle Circle. Three performers form a triangle and pass instruments between them in a circular movement.
Imitating a game of hide and seek, Marcela Lucatelli’s There Is a Load To It deals with colonialism, immigration and cultural invisibility, all of which are reactions to an unseen ‘other’ – like the virus itself. Lise Herland investigates time itself in her 5-Minute Piece.
Laurence Crane’s 2- Metre Harmony: Uncertain Chorales is written for a socially distanced trio format involving pitch pipes, megaphones, smartphones and more.
