Over two days during Ultima, dancer, choreographer and author Janne-Camilla Lyster will present a selection of curious, playful and contemplative performance pieces in the spirit of the groundbreaking New York School, and launch an exhibition and book collecting her choreographic scores.
The 1950s/60s avant garde movement in New York, including composers such as John Cage, Earle Browne, Morton Feldman, musicians, visual and performance artists, choreographers and dancers, invented new forms and new collaborations. Methods often involved indeterminacy, chance operations, graphic scores and performer choice.
Choreographic Poetry consists of a total of 14 works, including four premieres, presented by some of Norway’s most eminent performers in varying combinations and interpretations. All of them involve poetic texts transformed into dance and music. Uniting Lyster’s poetic and dance practice, these varied and innovative moments stem from her artistic fellowship project Choreographic Poetry – Development of Literary Scores for Dance (2014–19), and conjure surprising and shared moments between performers and audience.
