Echo Flux is Annabelle Bonnèry’s first production as head of Carte Blanche, and takes the form of a double-bill examining the relationship between dance and music.
The performances set up a pair of exciting encounters between a choreographer and a composer who have never previously collaborated, rising to the challenge of working in unfamiliar territory.
Alban Richard & Sebastian Rivas: the departed Heart
Inspired by Richard Burton’s The Anatomy of Melancholy (1621), the departed Heart takes off from the dancers' different ways of using their breath to create sound, rhythms and a specially built breathing, mechanical installation on stage. Choreographer Alban Richard is head of the National Choreography Centre in Caen, France. Here he collaborates for the first time with Argentinian composer Sebastian Rivas, winner of the Silver Lion award during the 2018 Venice Biennale.
Ayelen Parolin & Ezra: Primal
Primal pinpoints the moment when we feel most lost and are trying to restore what has been crushed, destroyed, and broken. The performance tries to retrieve the forgotten knowledge of how our ancestors lived in symbiosis with nature. Argentinian choreographer Ayelen Parolin teams up with French beatboxer Ezra in a show that illuminates humans’ historical relationship with nature and the lost cultures, traditions and rituals we no longer have the codes to understand.
