Ole Martin Meland: Øy (2020)
Smerz

In Øy (Island), dancer and choreographer Ole Martin Meland joins forces with experimental pop duo Smerz (Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt), for a new commission for seven members of Norwegian dance ensemble Carte Blanche.
In an island setting that’s a cross between a spa resort and a fantasy battlefield, the show explores connections between the isolation of ‘me-time’, growth and vandalism, natural phenomena and the silence of nothingness. The island is a geographical concept, but also a bounded space that can nurture the underdog.

One of Carte Blanche’s most experienced dancers, Ole Martin Meland’s choreography is intuitive, visceral and unpolished. Øy is complemented by Smerz’ intense soundscapes, which take inspiration from horror and romance, guitar- and chamber music.
