Swedish artist Carl Michael von Hausswolff has spent many years researching Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) around the world. Using special recording technology, and collaborating with US experimental musician and EVP researcher Michael Esposito, he seeks to capture voices in significant historical spaces, sometimes picking up communications from ‘the other side’.

In the spring of 2019 the duo visited the Vigeland Museum in Oslo and made field recordings in the house where Vigeland originally lived and worked. In this performance lecture, created exclusively for Ultima and the Vigeland 150th anniversary, they present their findings and explain their attempts to locate the sound of spirits and ghosts from the past within the museum.

Electronic Voice Phenomena taps into energy fields and sonic traces of specific places, connecting past and present, science and parapsychology, nature and the supernatural, rationalism and superstition. Who knows – maybe Gustav Vigeland himself will turn up?
