Jo Berger Myhre & Erlend Viken: Djupet (2020, WP)
In this newly commissioned piece exclusive for Riksscenen and the Ultima Festival, longtime collaborators Jo Berger Myhre and Erlend Viken explore the extremes of dynamics and weightlessness in a work combing music and movement. In a quest to uncover common roots as well as wild unexplored regions, the duo draw on their individual experiences with improvisation and folk music in search of a new form of ecstatic sound.
To help them draw connections between the repetition and cycles of traditional folk and the mechanical pulses of electronic dance, the duo has challenged themselves to incorporate unusual instruments from distant historical periods: a rare ten-string Hardanger fiddle and a 1980s Simmons drum machine.
Djupet will be presented in a concert performance including choreography, light and sound design.
